Op 23 september zal Niels weer even voet zetten op Nederlandse bodem. In het weekend van 27 en 28 september staat op de Haagse Uithof namelijk de Invitations Cup op het programma. Daar zal Niels zich moeten plaatsen voor de eerste serie Worldcups.

De kick-off van het shorttrackseizoen 2008-2009 begint op vrijdagavond 26 september met een serie trials. De best geklasseerden rijden in het weekend de Invitations Cup waar naast de Nederlandse toppers ook de beste shorttrackers uit de zeven sterkste shorttracklanden van Europa aan de start verschijnen.

Direct na de Invitations Cup, op dinsdag 30 september, zal Niels weer terug vliegen naar Los Angeles om zich daar verder voor te bereiden op het internationale wedstrijdseizoen.
